TIME CAPSULE

'OASIS' HEADMASTER'S MESSAGE

For many of you, your last days within the walls of Griffith High are near at hand. Wherever you may go, to University, Teachers' College, Technical College, bank, farm, office, shop, factory or home, my hope is that you take with you many happy memories of your schooldays. But I trust that in your luggage for life's journey you will take other things too - a readiness to give and receive friendship, a will to give to your work the best that is in you, toleration and understanding of viewpoints that differ from your own, a willingness to give service to your community and to those the world over who need a helping hand, a steady, rational approach to life's problems. Your level of achievement in these things, far more than your annual income, will measure your success in life.

One avenue of immediate service - and pleasure - is wide open to you. I refer to the newly formed Ex-Students' Association which has brought together a keen and capable group of former pupils of the school. Join them, and keep close your links with Griffith High.

Those of you who will still be with us in 1964 will have many opportunities in the academic, cultural, sporting and social fields. Return refreshed from your vacation, eager and willing to grasp everyone of them. That is the best and kindest advice that one can give you. Remember that you will have the goodwill and support of a fine staff, an enthusiastic P&C Association, and a remarkable number of town organisations, business houses and individual citizens. They are proud of you as a School. Show, in return, your pride in them and in your fast-growing, beautiful town and district.

STUDENT WORK

THE UNIVERSE
By John Bastianon (Yr 4A)

Who knows
What time-worn secrets those depths conceal from man.
Perhaps some alien race
Exists within those infinite light years,
Whose bewildering dimensions, veiled remain.
Who knows,
If He exists in some celestial ecstacy,
Where the soul of man is judged.
