TIME CAPSULE

'OASIS' PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

When I received my appointment to Griffith I naturally wondered what kind of people I would be living among for the next few years and, more importantly, just what kind of boys and girls make up the population of Griffith High School. Now, after some 8 months, I think I have an answer to both of these queries. I found that on leaving Broken Hill, whose people are renowned as a most friendly and hospitable group, it was my happy lot to be again in a community equally friendly and equally hospitable. My wife and I shall never forget the countless kindnesses that were extended to us on our arrival by so many people - many of them your parents.

In the School I have found boys and girls who have in the main a very good attitude to study and an admirably healthy attitude to sport. I have greatly appreciated the co-operation that you and your parents have at all times given me and especially do I value the visits to the School, at my invitation or otherwise, during which we have sorted out problems to our mutual advantage.

One important aim of the School is to turn out good scholars, but I am equally anxious to contribute to the development of good citizenship. In this I greatly desire your co-operation and assistance.

STUDENT WORK

LIFE
By Robert Bonomi (Yr 1-1)

What is life really?
It is something we treasure so dearly.
The power to talk,
The power to walk,
What is this thing
That operates within?
As I look about I see,
Others just the same as me.
Do they feel the same as me,
About the wonders that thet see?
Most of them just pass them by,
And not see them till they die.
At those moments they relate,
All the joys and fate,
Of life.
