HARDSHIP HEARTACHE
By Candice Johnstone (Yr 12)

Jigsaw puzzle on the ground
Dry and arid all around
Dry leaves do fall from the trees
Picked up by the playful breeze
The water wheel slowly turns, each turn it screams
The water to sooth its pain is only in its dreams
Tears roll down the farmer's face
Wishing someone would take his place
A dust cloud does slowly form
Though only small a sign of a storm
The horizon shows more than a blur of trees
The farmer kneels down on his beaten knees
Runs the red dirt through his fingers
He can now feel how the humidity lingers
The clouds form above his head
Tears washed away as he lies still on his muddy bed.

LOTE : Year 8 Italian Soccer Trophy
Term 3, 2002

On Friday 20th September, Year 8 students of Italian once again competed for the Year 8 Italian Soccer Trophy. The Spinks family (at the Griffith Trophy Centre) has sponsored this trophy for the past 5 years, and we thank them sincerely for their continued support. The competition is a highlight of Italian studies in Year 8 and is part of the 'Sport and Leisure' unit which students study in the latter half of Term 3. Classes are designated on Italian Series A Soccer teams and they play under the name of that team and wear the colours of that team during the competition. Four games are played and the winner is decided on points scored (ie. 2 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss).

The classes and teams this year were:

8 Gamma (AC Milan) won this year's competition with 6 points. Runners up were 8 Epsilon (Roma) on 5 points. The trophy was presented to the winning captain at the school's Assembly on Wednesday 26th September.
