MAP OF NSW

Today the School Library caters to the needs and interests of just over 500 students from Years 7 to 12 who have a multicultural background, a teaching staff of 57 and a support staff of 23. The Library is automated and runs on the OASIS System. It has over 18,000 resources (books, kits, audio tapes, videos, CD-ROM programs, pictures and a small range of periodicals), and is networked with other School Libraries and with the Public Library - which provide our staff and students with access to a wider range of resources. Users are also provided with a Computer Annex in the Library which has 16 Pentium PCs. These "Electronic Reference" computers are used to run multimedia CD-ROMs and the Internet.

The main aim of the School Library is to provide a dynamic environment for independent learners and to provide services and curriculum resources of the highest quality and relevance. The Library operates as a vital instrument in the education process. It is integrated as much as possible in the teaching and learning processes of the school. Teaching staff are encouraged to practice co-operative planning and teaching with the Teacher Librarian. Literacy is also promoted through the development and selection of appropriate and appealing reading materials, combined with the application of the Accelerated Reader system. This Reading Management Software enables teachers to know the reading year level of every student in their class or school, and match them to appropriate books in their reading range. Testing with 'Accelerated Reader' also enables teachers to know what books their students have read, how well they have comprehended these books, and whether they have achieved the reading goals set for them.

The Library program embraces technological change and the promotion of reading.
